6 Ways to Stay Healthy While Traveling

As a child, my favorite season was summer, which isn’t surprising because um hello, summer break? I loved the warm weather, long, light-filled days, strawberry picking, playdates with friends, vacations, and of course, lack of school. Even as an adult, summer is the season of travel. It’s mainly instigated by kids being off from school, but the warm weather makes it conducive for road trips and outdoor adventures.

This year, I kicked off summer early by taking a long weekend trip to Denver and Boulder.

I’d never been to Colorado and was awed by its beautiful, mountainous terrain. I’m a huge homebody, so when I travel, I like to take things with me that are part of my everyday routine. Though it may seem silly and superfluous, having items like my tea, supplements, tongue scraper, and other body care products keep me grounded while I’m away.

Another thing I like to do is check out the grocery store in the area I’m visiting. It made me so happy to see Health-Ade kombucha happily sitting on the shelf of the grocery store in Boulder just like at home. So much of my trip was spent doing physical activities outdoors, so staying hydrated was a must.

When I’m traveling, I try to up my dosage of probiotics to give my body the extra boost it needs to stay healthy. The natural probiotics in kombucha coupled with the drink’s hydration properties were my perfect travel buddy.

It’s difficult to maintain a healthy routine while traveling, but here are a few tips I’ve picked up along the way:

TIP #1: Stay grounded

I touched on this earlier, but bring items from home to keep you grounded. Being in a different time zone and environment throws me off my schedule, but nothing makes me feel more grounded than having my daily tea or favorite body butter with me.

TIP #2: Walk everywhere

When I travel, I don’t usually work out with the same regularity and intensity as I do at home. Walking is not only great exercise, but it’s the best way to thoroughly explore the area.

TIP #3: Make sure you get enough sleep

Sleep is a non-negotiable for me, especially when I travel. Everything you do when you’re awake wears on your body—especially when you’re off your regular routine—and the only way to repair cells and rejuvenate is through sleep.

TIP #4: Don’t forget your supplements

When your body is off it’s schedule, it’s all the more crucial to nourish it with supplements. I love turmeric for joint pain/anti-inflammation, milk seed thistle for liver support, maca for energy, digestive enzymes to help break down food, and probiotics for the extra boost of good gut bacteria.

TIP #5: Hydrate

When you’re busy sightseeing and exploring new places, it’s common to forget to hydrate, but it’s so important to keep your insides lubricated. This helps you better digest whatever food you eat throughout the day—which quite often are things you don’t regularly eat. I love a classic water and kombucha is a great way to get your hydration and probiotics in one.

TIP #6: Go with the flow!

I’m an extremely regimented person who loves to stick to an itinerary. Sometimes I have to realize that when I’m on vacation, it’s okay to get off of my schedule to fully embrace the moment.
